Just a quick recap of the severe storm that came through Montville in February.  I was outside watching the storm roll in when the when the wind increased dramatically.  I enjoyed the lightning and thunder – until the wind picked up even more and I could hear branches cracking and falling to the ground.  I was hit by the realisation that the brigade would be called out after the storm had passed.

After the storm, I walked up the road to find a car stopped with a power line draped over it.  Those people in the car and others at the scene were safe so I headed to the fire station to get a truck to warn other traffic of the damage ahead.  This was a task in itself, as the area around our station was initially impassable using a truck.  After sorting out that issue, the Montville RFB volunteers set about clearing the major roads in conjunction with Energex, Nambour Urban Firefighters and, later in the night, Council crews.  It was a late night and of course exhausting work.

The storm came out of nowhere and created havoc which is like some fires.  Please clean up around your property and keep it clean as we go through the cooler months, then into Spring and Summer. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us as we have hazard reduction burns to do this winter.

If you have an area that you think needs to be burnt please use one of the contacts listed below.  We also have a Facebook page so check it out as it’s a good way to get info out to the community.   https://www.facebook.com/MontvilleRuralFireBrigade/
