Montville State School is in fine form, by all accounts! The new principal, Adam Montgomery, has been overwhelmed by the support the school has received this term.“At our most recent Working Bee, we had over 30 families, staff and community members helping; it was a great day.” Garden beds have been tidied up, the sandpit replenished, gutters have been cleaned, roof damage from the storm fixed, and the new air conditioning installed for every classroom, thanks to the hard work of the P&C submitting a successful application and obtaining a Community Benefit Gambling Grant. BIG congratulations to the new Montville school leaders for 2018! The hall was packed with proud parents, grandparents, friends and community members. We also enjoyed the presence of members of the Masonic Lodge, Montville Village Association, Montville Chamber of Commerce, Andrew Powell MP and local business owners. Thank you so much to everyone for supporting our school and students. Our Friday afternoon assemblies have been quite the social event, with many families staying to enjoy home-baking and complimentary tea and coffee afterward. And the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden sessions have seen children picking fresh produce from our gardens, or donated by families, which they use to create healthy, delicious meals in our recently refurbished kitchen and prep area. Montville State School’s current focus is on improving reading within the school and building community engagement. To this end, we are hoping for volunteers to join our reading intervention/extension program. If you, or someone you know, can commit to two or more hours per week, are willing to apply for a volunteer’s Blue Card and are interested in making a genuine difference to a child please let the school know. We need your help to make this a success. And finally, a big welcome to our five new students this term! We look forward to sharing more positive school news with you in the next edition of The Happenings. By Victoria McGuin
