12 April, 6 pm; Voice to Parliament guest speaker David Hollinsworth

At our April General Meeting we will have the honour of hosting David Hollinsworth, on the upcoming Voice to Parliament referendum.

David Hollinsworth is an Adjunct Professor in the Indigenous Studies at the University of the Sunshine Coast.  David taught Indigenous studies and anti-racism at the University of South Australia from 1979 until 1997, and at the University of the Sunshine Coast from 2003 to 2019.  He has published widely on Aboriginal history and politics, Indigenous health and community development, and on representations of Aboriginality in the media and academia.

David has an international and national reputation for his work on the shifting forms of Australian racism and on effective strategies for combating racism.  He is especially engaged in efforts to identify and eliminate systemic racism that exists in all our major institutions, for example, police and the justice system, health and disability services, education, welfare, and the workplace.

Alongside his academic and professional work, David has been an activist in Aboriginal struggles and anti-racism since 1968. Some of these were land rights and cultural heritage campaigns in South Australia, the Northern Territory, New South Wales and Queensland including the Hindmarsh Island Bridge campaign. He was National Non-Indigenous Chair of the Stolen Generations Alliance that negotiated the Apology by PM Kevin Rudd in 2008, working with stolen generations survivors and their families since 1996.

Note, our general meetings are free for all to attend, doors to the Village Hall open at 5:30 pm for drinks and socialising, with the actual event running from 6 to 7 pm.
