Despite the run of dry weather the Park is currently looking spick and span. This has been enhanced by a recent visit by the mowing contractors giving the area the once over, the trees throughout the Park having some lower branches trimmed and the weed removal contractor cleaning the lagoons of Salvinia.

Hopefully the need for constant weed removal will be a thing of the past as Council has advised us that the top and middle lagoons have been chosen for a Diatom trial to be run by AlgaEnviro. The outcome expected is to keep the water healthy and the lagoons weed free – watch this space.

We still await commencement on the toilet and playground upgrades. Supposedly this should now commence in (early) October and finish in December. Apparently the playground upgrade is to cater for children aged up to 12 years with nature play and group play opportunities. This is to occur by increasing the size of the current playground and the removal of some of the present equipment and the addition of some other.

During the last three months the Russell Family Park Bushcare Group have worked for 64 hours doing their usual maintenance work, usually lots of weeding, but because of the lack of rain we have also needed to water recently established plants by buckets out of the lagoons.

We are always on the lookout for help and can be found in the Park (mostly weeding) from 7.30-9.00 am on the 1st & 3rd Sundays and 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month – and there’s a cuppa and cake at the end to say thank you.
